Zac Efron opens up about homosexuality

While people continue to question John Travolta‘s sexuality, Zac Efron responds to the gay rumors that have plagued him since the start of his career. He remarked, “I don’t like to live in fear about things like rumors and backlash to begin with — that’s the way I was raised — but I just can’t see what’s so wrong about being gay.” Reminding people that calling somebody gay is not an insult, Zac approaches the situation in a mature and respectable way. He maintains he is straight, but doesn’t see the point in taking time to combat gossip. In fact, his career has more than likely been helped by the LGBT community. A subject that hits close to home, he also opened up about his support of gay marriage, “It’s an issue that affects so many people in my life — a lot of my close friends and some of the most influential people around me. I just want them all to be happy. It would make me so happy to see them able to live their lives and do what they want to do.”

His breakthrough role being that of High School Musical‘s Troy Bolton, Zac understands people making a connection: “I think the gay audience related to my character Troy, because it really was a story of embracing who you are, no matter how different you might be, and not being afraid to show it. That’s a universal theme for everyone, but it specifically resonated with the gay community, and I felt very proud of that.” Embracing the support and acknowledging what it has done for his career, he also states, “After High School Musical and Hairspray, I’ve always felt embraced by the gay community, and I feel incredibly grateful and honored.”

Zac may finally escape questioning with his latest role in The Paperboy, which includes at least one extremely racy scene with co-star Nicole Kidman. ~Morgan Bates

Good for him. I mean, in John’s case I get why the allegations may casue a problem, legally, financially, with his family, but Zac doesn’t have a family of his own yet, so it’s not like these rumours will destroy his relationship. There’s nothing wrong with being gay, or straight or anything in-between and I’m glad to see a star like Zac present that as his viewpoint. Who cares if people are calling you gay? Why does that even matter?

Doesn’t matter. Why do people even speculate about it? Happiness is wherever a person can find it. As they say…..live and let live. The hardest task of the human species is acceptance of others different from themselves. The second hardest task is to not dictate how they think others should live. The third hardest task is to mind our own business.

I thought he was gay, but didn’t care. If he says he’s not then good for him. I like his view point. Who cares as long as you are happy with yourself and whoever your with the rest of the world keeps spinning and should just focus on themselves.

What a politically correct answer! It’s a good point but it just sounds so overly scripted by a publicist or something

Well spoken Zac! If you follow him then you must believe in him too. If you don’t believe him then you are not a friend of his. All People are created equal so does it matter if we are gay, straight or what ever? No it doesn’t. Just believe in yourself and have a great life.
