Why can’t they just leave the classics alone…?

    ARE U KIDDING ME!!!!!!
The original one is amazing.. i love that movie.. and i CANT STAND zac efron and highschool musical either. They are ruining a great old movie! Can’t these people think of anything else, but re-due classic’s???

OKAY! seriously people need to calm down about remaking movies. First of all this one will probably be the musical version of the movie, and I’m happy to see they are making it into a film. I was in the play myself in High School and am quite excited. Not the biggest Zac fan, but whatevs.

NOOOOOOOOOO!! Footloose is one of the best movies of all time and will only be ruined by doing this!! No matter who the actor is, Kevin Bacon’s performance cannot be beat. How about an original idea for a change?

Why does hollywood have remake great films, why can’t you guys come with something fresh? This has to be on of the dumbest ideas yet, come on now get you stuff together.

I LOVE ZAC EFRON AND HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL! Zac is a great actor and singer and I know that he’ll do justice to the original film. People alos have to understand that, yes, they are classics, but they are OLD classics! Teenagers do not want to see movies from before the 2000s. The only way to get them to watch something like this would be to have a hot actor like Zac remake this movie! HSM was the biggest hit EVER, so I think everyone should give him a chance!
    Luv ya, Zac! XD

I am writing in response to Nikki’s comment. Zac is not that good at singing, come on, compare him to real artists, dosnt seem that good anymore does he. Anyways, I will not even comment on his acting…. As for the old classics thing, I have news for you thats what clasics TEND TO BE! I am a teenager myself, and I enjoy old movies. I am one of many. As well, by old movies I mean before the 2000s… GASP!!!!!!

I feel we should give this movie a chance before we criticize it`s potential based on the fact of whether it`s a classic or the talents and acting strenghts certain actors, in this case Zac Efron, have.

I`m pretty sure he knows what the stepping stone is in starring in a remake of something that`s been around for like.. AGES and jump started someone`s carreer. I have confidence that Zac will do an excellent job in keeping up ” Footloose ” `s quality up.

COME ON ALREADY!!! This remaking of classic hit movies is getting ridiculous. Just goes to prove that many of the ptb in Gee-Gollywood don’t have a fresh idea in their pea-brained minds. Although this may be successful with the “tween” crowd it will surely flop with the mature fans. Thank goodness for Robin Williams and other established actors who don’t need to rely on the popularity of older material to make a hit.

i like zac hes a good actor and i think it would a good movie to see

I agree with yawnie, this is ridiculous, and the only reason everybody likes zac on here is because he is supposedly cute.

i cant stand high school musical and hollywood is just going to wreck one of the best classics ever obviously they havent learned their lesson yet and will just waste more money

Just you wait, he’s going to win an Oscar for this!

  19. melissa • July 23, 2007 @ 9:34 AM

okay. I’m not one to even comment like this, but something has to be said.

I think what people are getting so upset about is the fact that they think Hollywood is remaking the movie- they are not. They are making a movie adaptation of the Broadway musical, which is based on the Kevin Bacon movie. Same with Hairspray. First it was the movie by John Waters [amazing, one of the favorites in my personal collection], then it was a Broadway show [double-amazing, one of my favorite shows I’ve ever seen], and now it is a Movie Musical [amazingamazingamazing, I couldn’t control my level of excitment in the theatre- I got chills]. This is what they’ll be doing with Footloose. Opening it up to those who haven’t seen the Broadway show or even the original movie will give a whole new generation an interest in the theatre and just plain awesome music and acting, period.

When I heard that Zac Efron was going to play Link Larkin in the movie adaptation of Broadway’s Hairspray, I almost peed my pants, I was so excited. When I found out he’d be playing Ren McCormick in the movie adaptation of Broadway’s Footloose, I actually did pee my pants, because not only was I excited to see this different take on such a treasured story, but I was excited to see Mr. Efron bring to life just another musical theatre icon. I’m really impressed with his artistic decisions so far and can’t wait to see what’s next for him.

So for all those who are hating this casting decision and this movie idea, I ask you all just to back off. If you don’t like Zac, fine. Don’t like him. But don’t trash something that will change someone else’s life- because you know what, someone somewhere will watch that movie [whether it be Hairspray, Footloose, or even frickin’ High School Musical] and they’ll try out for their school play and then they might be the next Broadway star. At least, that’s how it happened for them- John Travolta, Kevin Bacon… the theatre gave them their voice. And I hope that’s how it happens for me. Right now, I’m just a Musical Theatre major, but I hope that someday I can be much more. It’s thanks to movies and musicals like these that I can even hope to have these dreams.

    Think about it.

itsnot a straight up remake, its an adaption of the musical like they did with hairspray. i love zac but i dunno if im stoked for this movie…cant people do anything original anymore. all the movies this summer were either remakes/adaptions/sequels. think of something new, hollywood!!

zacs an awesome dancer and good singer and actor. but i dont know if this movie needs to be made…

I have a feeling that this is going to be a great movie because Kenny Ortega is a good director and choreographer and Zac Efron is awsome. I think that Kenny Ortega is choreographing it.

  25. anonymous • May 19, 2008 @ 4:49 PM

I totaly agree with Melissa. I think it will be an awesome movie! I can’t wait to see the movie when it comes out! They have remaked so many good movies and they rock! Some arn’t the best, but Zac is awesome and he will make the movie reach the top!

  26. tara • June 10, 2008 @ 10:18 PM

wether or not you like zac efron isnt the point. i have seen both the original movie and the broadway show, and i have been in the play. they are remaking this movie to make it into a full blown musical so that those who missed it while it was on broadway can have a chance to see what its like with all the song and dance numbers. if you all would just give it a chance rather then judging it right away myabe you could get over yourselves and realize it’ll be a great movie.
