Zach Galifiniakis lights up late night

By Alexandra Heilbron on November 1, 2010 | 7 Comments

On Friday night’s edition of Real Time with Bill Maher, Zach Galifiniakis took part in a conversation regarding Proposition 19, a bill that would legalize marijuana use. After stating that, “It’s a tricky thing politically to jump on that bandwagon ’cause I think that maybe people see it as taboo still,” Galifiniakis pulled out a joint and lit up. The audience and panel alike were shocked and broke into laughter. Galifiniakis then passed the joint to O’Reilly Factor‘s Margaret Hoover who, while in hysterics, smelled it and confirmed it was the real thing. The Hangover star then continued to puff away while the other guests returned to the debate. Maher himself is a long time opponent to outlawing marijuana and hosted a panel discussion on California’s upcoming vote on decriminalizing the drug. Several other celebrities, like Danny Glover and Melissa Etheridge, are also supporting decriminalization. ~Chantelle Rodrigo

Bold move. It is however what needs to be done if the bill is to be passed. I think he is correct to think that for many ‘lighting up’ is still seen as taboo. So long as it can been seen as an activity which is done by an average person and not a criminal it will help their cause. Only issue is obviously that Marijuana is obviously still illegal wonder what will happen…

Regulate the potency of the marijuana, outlaw cigarettes and tobacco, and then make it legal. Non-medicinal marijuana is not harmless, however, cigarettes and tobacco certainly have many more negative side-effects than the spikey-leaf. No, I do not smoke marijuana.

what an idiot!! Too bad he didn’t get arrested! The guy refuses to work with Gibson (who hasn’t been charged with anything more then drunk driving) as if he has high moral standings yet he pulls out an ILLEGAL substance and lights it up, proving his morality isn’t high at all. Pot may not give you cancer, but it messes with your mind and your life and it can control you. I know from watching loved ones go through this and it does long term damage to your mental functioning that you will never get back!!! The fact that he is promoting it’s use is disgusting!!

    Good for you Zach

Weed (not marijuana or pot) does not do long term damage if you control the habit. Sorry to offend, but if you are weak enough of a person to allow substances like weed, booze or fatty foods control your life it means youre not “built” to enjoy them.

Be your own adult and take care of yourself… or fail. Its called evolution.

Ha Ha..ok I totally do not agree with using while driving and such. But at home (while kids are not present) or camping etc, fine, go for it. Zack, lighting in public would not be even a fine in that state as it’s not enough to constitute as trafficing or major possession laws, so just as ‘Bitch’ became a regular word on TV when someone said it and broke new ground. Like when Dennis Franz showed his bum on NY PD Blue it broke new ground. Or like on That 70’s show where there was smoke in the room and clearly eluding to smoking pot, it helped open the door to this move by Zack. Movies have started to show people smoking, so it’s inevitable that TV will start also. The US censors could have blocked that scene out so clearly it’s setting presidence and since the laws are being votes/debated on then that leaves TV up for debate as well.

    It’s going to happen.
