Benjamin Arthur biography
Benjamin Arthur is a Canadian actor and writer best known for his Gemini-nominated work as Josh Blecher in the HBO Canada series Less Than Kind.
Born Benjamin Arthur Gutknecht in Vancouver, British Columbia, Benjamin began performing when he was very young, but it wasn't until he enrolled in drama and musical theater that the acting bug truly bit him. He subsequently attended the Vancouver Film School and spent five years studying the classic Meisner technique at A Company of Rogues Acting Studio.
His first movie role came in the 2005 short film Dating, followed closely by the independent horror Darkest Hour. Next he had small roles on the television shows Whistler and The L Word, and played Chauncey in the movie That One Night (2008). Later in 2008, Benjamin got his big break with a starring role in the Canadian comedy drama series Less Than Kind. He won a Leo Award for his role, and would go on to star on the show for five seasons.
During his time on Less Than Kind, Benjamin earned roles in a slew of movies and TV movies, including Something Evil Comes (2009), Switch (2010), American Reunion (2012), the comedy Hang Loose (2012), which he co-wrote, as well as the lead in the crime drama Charlie (2012).
The rising actor continued his success on television, earning a guest role on the popular Canadian drama series Saving Hope, as well as a recurring role as petty criminal Jimmy Engel, who would do anything for his mother, played by Andrea Martin, on the NBC sitcom Working With Engels.
Benjamin can also be seen as David the comedy The Steps (2015) opposite James Brolin and Jason Ritter, and will be co-starring in the Canadian thriller One Drop.
