Eric Johann Johnson was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He's best known for his role as Anastasia Steele's boss, Jack Hyde, in Fifty Shades Darker (2017) and Fifty Shades Freed (2018).

At the age of nine, Eric enrolled in theater school and began working in front of the camera on various TV commercials. At the age of 18, he was offered roles on several small-screen productions and by the time he was 22, he landed a recurring role as Whitney Fordman, the alternate love interest of Lana Lang, on the hit Superman series Smallville.

Eric has since made appearances on other popular television shows including Criminal Minds, Rookie Blue and Orphan Black. On the big screen, he played Davis in the thriller A Simple Favor(2018) alongside Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively and Charlie Lake in the Canadian mystery thriller Disappearance at Clifton Hill (2020), with Tuppence Middleton and Hannah Gross.

Also in 2020, he appeared on two television shows. The first one, Vikings, was filmed from 2018 to 2019 and began airing on the History Channel in 2020. In it, he plays a starring role as Erik. He also joined the cast for the second season of the Audience Network's Condor, based on the novel Six Days of the Condor, in the role of Tracy Crane.

It was while working on Smallville from 2001 to 2004 that Eric met his wife Adria Budd, who worked as an executive assistant on the show. The couple married on August 7, 2004. In 2007, Eric and Adria welcomed their first child, a daughter, named Calla Prairie Johnson.
