HOWARD DEUTCH

Born and raised in New York City, Howard Deutch attended Ohio State University and began his career in the entertainment industry producing movie trailers and then directing music videos.

Between feature projects, he continues to be one of the most respected and busy commercial directors in the industry.

He made his feature directing debut with the popular coming-of-age film Pretty in Pink, starring Molly Ringwald.

He followed this up with Some Kind of Wonderful starring Eric Stoltz, Mary Stuart Masterson and Lea Thompson, and The Great Outdoors, which teamed up Dan Aykroyd and John Candy.

In 1992 he tried a change in tone and worked with Kiefer Sutherland and Ray Liotta in the controversial drama Article 99.

In the early '90s he also dabbled in television, working on a number of series including Melrose Place, Caroline in the City and Tales From the Crypt.

Deutch won a Cable ACE award for the "Dead Right" episode of Tales From the Crypt, which starred Demi Moore.

Deutch has also directed at New York City's Ensemble Studio Theatre.

In 1989, he married actress Lea Thompson who played Michael J. Fox's young mother in the Back to the Future trilogy. They have two daughters, Madeline and Zoey.
