The name of her own production company -- I Hate Myself Productions -- kinda says it all about this queen of self-deprecation. Born in Newton, New Jersey, Garofalo is very funny, extremely quick-witted and almost always quick to take a shot at herself.
Once a member of the Saturday Night Live cast and later a regular on The Larry Sanders Show (for which she received two Emmy Award nominations), Garofalo has carved out a feature film career as the girl who sometimes gets the guy even though she never expects to.
She says "I actually was class clown, but I don't know how that happened because I've never been considered an outwardly funny person." But her comedy specials and stand-up act belie that self-impression.
As for that somewhat negative self-image, she says: "I don't hate myself, as a general rule. I'd say the best way to describe it is that I have moments of self-loathing at fairly regular intervals."
Garofalo received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2001 Slamdunk Film Festival. She married Rob Cohen in 1991 and although their relationship has since ended, they have not yet divorced.
