JOHN HEARD

Date of Birth: March 7, 1946

John Heard was born in Washington, D.C., where he studied acting at Catholic University. Audiences know him best as the Macaulay Culkin's forgetful Dad, Peter McAllister in the first two Home Alone movies. But gossip columnists know him as the former husband of Margot Kidder, even though the marriage lasted only six days.

John got his start on stage at the Organic Theatre in Chicago, where he won a Theatre World award in 1976. He also earned three Obie Awards for his Off-Broadway work (G.R. Point, Othello, Split) before making his screen debut in Between the Lines.

He went on to appear in Head Over Heels and Cat People before playing opposite Tom Hanks in Big and opposite Meg Foster in The Scarlett Letter for PBS television.

John received a Primetime Emmy nomination in 1999, for his guest appearance on the hit TV series The Sopranos.

In 1988, John married again, to Sharon Heard, but eight years and two children later that marriage ended in divorce. His son Max, died over an overdose in 2016. He also has a daughter Annika, but was estranged from both of them. He gave marriage another try in 2010, marrying Lana Pritchard, but the marriage was over by the end of the year. He also has a son, Jack, born in 1987 during a three-year relationship with actress Melissa Leo.

Heard died at the age of 72 on July 21, 2017 in Palo Alto, California. He was in a hotel at the time recovering from minor back surgery.
