Ken Scott Biography

Ken Scott was born in Dalhousie, Nova Scotia and grew up in Laval, Quebec. In 1991, he received a certificate in screenwriting from l’Université du Québec à Montréal. He has been involved in film and television in various capacities ever since.
In 2000, he wrote the French-Canadian comedy La vie après l’amour (Life After Love), which earned him a Best Screenplay nomination at the 2001 Jutra Awards, and won the Billet d’Or, which is awarded to the top-grossing Quebecois film of the year. In 2002, he wrote and starred in the TV sitcom Le Plateu. He then wrote La grande seduction (Seducing Dr. Lewis). The 2003 comedy won several Audience Awards at various film festivals, including the Atlantic Film Festival, Boston Independent Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival. The film also earned Scott another nomination for Best Screenplay at the Jutra Awards, as well as a nomination in the same category at the Genie Awards.
Scott’s next script was the 2005 biopic The Rocket: The Legend of Rocket Richard. The film explored the professional life of hockey player Maurice Richards, who played in the National Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens. He followed that up with Guide de la petite vengeance in 2006, which garnered him a Genie Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
In 2009, Scott made his directorial debut with the crime-comedy Les doigts croches, which he also wrote. Two years later, he wrote and directed the hit comedy Starbuck. The film won the Audience Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, as well as the Most Popular Canadian Film award at the 2011 Vancouver Film Festival. Starbuck went on to win Best Original Screenplay at the 2012 Genie Awards. The film was remade in India as Vicky Donor (2012) and Scott also directed and rewrote the comedy in English for Hollywood, titled Delivery Man and starring Vince Vaughn.
He again worked with Vaughn in the English language comedy Unfinished Business (2015), also starring Dave Franco, followed by The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir (2019), about a Mumbai hustler who goes in search of his estranged father. For his work on the film, Scott won the Ray of Sunshine Award at the Norwegian International Film Festival.
