Pennsylvania-born Taylor Kinney was raised by a single mother with his three brothers in the suburban community of Neffsville, just over an hour east of Philadelphia. Taylor studied business management at West Virginia University before quickly developing an interest in acting.

Most of the actor and model’s roles have been on television, his first being as Luke Gianni on the nighttime telenovela Fashion House (2006). He subsequently had a guest roles on shows such as What About Brian (2007) and Bones (2008), and a small role in the horror flick Furnace (2007) before landing a starring role in the short-lived series Trauma.

His big break was a recurring role as Mason Lockwood in the CW’s smash teen series The Vampire Diaries (2010). Taylor then had a busy year in 2011, landing guest roles on many popular shows including CSI: NY (2004), Rizzoli & Isles (2010), Shameless (2010) and Castle (2009).

In 2012, the rising actor appeared in his first major film — Kathryn Bigelow’s action thriller Zero Dark Thirty. Next he appeared alongside Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann in the romantic comedy The Other Woman (2014).

Taylor can currently be seen as Kelly Severide in the NBC firefighting drama Chicago Fire (2012) and its spin-off Chicago Med (2015). He also stars in the horror film The Forest (2016) alongside Game of Thrones (2012) star Natalie Dormer.

In 2011, Taylor met his fiancée, singer Lady Gaga, on the set of her music video for her song “You and I,” in which he appeared.
