Gabriel Macht biography
Date of Birth: January 22, 1972
The son of famed actor Stephen Macht, Gabriel Macht was born in the Bronx, but when his father's career began to take off, the family moved to Los Angeles. Gabriel began his acting career at the age of eight, making his film debut in Why Would I Lie? (1980), starring Treat Williams. Although he received a Youth in Film Best Actor nomination, Gabriel took a break from acting until after finishing high school. He made a couple of TV appearances in 1991, with a guest role in the hit series Beverly Hills, 90210 and a role in the TV movie Guilty Until Proven Innocent before leaving Los Angeles to study at the prestigious Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in Pittsburgh.
His first role after graduating with a bachelor of fine arts degree in drama was in the TV western movie Follow the River (1995), starring Ellen Burstyn. Macht then honed his skill playing a variety of roles on stage in New York, including a visitor from the future in the Off-Broadway play Picasso at the Lapin Agile, written by Steve Martin.
Macht landed small roles in a number of Hollywood films, but his career really began to take off in 2000, when he auditioned for and got the role of William Holden in the ABC TV biopic Audrey Hepburn opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt, as well as a starring role as a medical intern on the sci-fi series The Others.
In 2001, Macht scored a major coup when he was chosen to play Jesse James' brother Frank, co-starring Colin Farrell as Jesse in American Outlaws . Although the film was given a thumbs down by many critics, producers and casting directors took notice of the leading male stars. A number of roles in top Hollywood movies followed, including a starring role in The Recruit (2003), again joining his "brother" from American Outlaws , Colin Farrell. Other credits include Because I Said So (2006), Middle Men (2009) and Love & Other Drugs (2010).
Macht and his wife, actress Jacinda Barrett, have a daughter born August 27, 2007 in Los Angeles.
