Gurinder Chadha biography
Born in Kenya, Chadah is an Englishwoman of Indian descent. She began her career as a news reporter with the BBC, and went on to direct several award-winning documentaries.
She began working on the big screen in the early '90s with the short, Acting Our Age. This was soon followed up by an award-winning full-length feature, Bhaji on the Beach, and two more short films. Bahji also received a BAFTA nomination for Best Film of 1994 and Chadha won the Evening Standard Award for Best Newcomer to British cinema.
In 1995, she directed Rich Deceiver, a two-part drama for the BBC, watched by eleven million viewers. After writing What's Cooking?, the script was invited to the Sundance Institute's Writer's Lab. It went on to be the opening night film at Sundance Film Festival.
She received worldwide acclaim with her hit film, Bend It Like Bendham (2003). Not only did it win awards from film festivals around the world, but it made stars out of the two young lead actresses, Keira Knightley and Parminder Nagra. Her latest directorial credit is the drama Viceroy's House (2017).
