In 1998, he appeared in Armageddon (1998) a fast-paced tale of an asteroid headed for a fatal collision with Earth, and the sci-fi flick, Soldier (1998) for director Paul Anderson, a longtime friend.
In the late '90s, he also appeared in the indie drama Divorcing Jack (1998) and the Oscar-nominated The End of the Affair (1999) opposite Ralph Fiennes and Julianne Moore. He kept busy in the 2000s, with roles in Patriot (2000), Sweet November (2001), Black Hawk Down (2001), Resident Evil (2002), and Friends With Money (2006). He also played the dangerously evil Lucius Malfoy, the father of Draco Malfoy, in the Harry Potter movies.
Jason played the role of Dr. Hunter Aloysius 'Hap' Percy, an unethical man who traps people in cages to use as test subjects on the hit Netflix series The OA, (2016 to 2019). He also appeared in the crime drama The Infiltrator (2016), Gore Verbinski's mystery thriller A Cure for Wellness (2017) with Dane DeHaan, the dark comedy The Death of Stalin (2018), alongside Steve Buscemi and the thriller Hotel Mumbai (2019) alongside Dev Patel.
