Jed Brophy biography

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Jed Brophy

Date of Birth: 1963

New Zealand-born Jed Brophy has become a well-established actor in his own right. His acting debut came in 1988 in the film Small War on the Edge of Town, a small National Film Unit drama about an outsider living in his mobile home. After this debut, Brophy landed a lead role in Gaylene Preston’s TV movie Married followed by a role playing British star Robert Powell's brother in Chunuk Bair (1992).

His professional acting career truly began in the early 90s when he landed several movie roles, including Peter Jackson’s comedy-horror film Braindead (1992). Shortly after that, Jed was cast in another Peter Jackson project, the critically-acclaimed film Heavenly Creatures (1994). Following the huge success of his appearances in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jed set sail as a member of the Venture Crew in yet another Jackson film King Kong (2005), a remake of the classic film of the same name.

Brophy’s connection to Peter Jackson has continued to pay off because in 2012, he managed to land a role in the director’s highly-anticipated film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey , the first installment of a trilogy slated as the prequel to The Lord of the Rings series. Brophy plays one of the dwarves, Nori, and will be reprising his role for the next two films, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and The Hobbit: There and Back Again (2014).
