Michael Joseph Kelly Jr. was born in Philadelphia to Maureen and Michael Kelly. Michael has two sisters, Shannon and Casey and a brother named Andrew. After graduating from Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia, he went to Coastal Carolina University to study law.

Doug Stamper is the cunning Chief of Staff to the President of the United States, a favorite among fans of House of Cards.

When asked about the 2016 U.S. presidential election, he told WBUR, “I think all of a sudden we don’t look so crazy anymore, do we?"

Michael is married to Karyn Mendel. The pair wed in 2005 and live in Manhattan's Lower East Side. They have a daughter Frankie and a son, Clinton, who played his niece and nephew on an episode of House of Cards.
