Peter Stormare biography

The Brothers Grimm

Peter Stormare

Date of Birth: August 27, 1953

Peter Stormare began his career in the theater industry in his native Sweden, where he performed for 15 years at the Royal National Theatre. In 1993 he made the move to the U.S., settling in New York, where he began to appear in English productions.

After making small appearances in a few films, he landed a role in the Coen Brothers’ Fargo (1996) as the murderous sidekick to Steve Buscemi. This role gave him wider exposure and gained the attention of Armageddon producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Michael Bay, who were searching for a specific type to play the film's crazed cosmonaut.

Stromare has also appeared in the films Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997), The Big Lebowski (1998), and 8 MM (1999). On television, he has shown up in episodes of Seinfield and Swift Justice. In 2000, he played roles in Dancer In The Dark and Chocolat .

Stormare acknowledged the realities of his acting future early on, "I was a foreigner and I knew that most of the parts I would be offered would be foreigners. I knew that I could not compete with Bruce Willis, Tom Cruise and Nicholas Cage, so I did not fight it. I saw the path I was destined to walk and decided to do the parts that would be offered me as well as I possibly could."

He continues to play supporting roles in movies such as Bad Boys II (2003) starring Will Smith, Constantine starring Keanu Reeves, Nacho Libre (2006) starring Jack Black, Henry's Crime (2010) again with Reeves, and Lockout (2012) alongside Guy Pearce. In 2013, Stormare played the role of Sheriff Berringer in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters , which also starred Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.

Divorced, Stormare lives in Los Angeles. He has a daughter from his marriage.
