When 10-year-old Max Mercer (Archie Yates) tries to get the attention of his parents Blake (Pete Holmes) and Carol (Aisling Bea), he's quickly brushed off because they are overwhelmed preparing for their Christmas trip to Japan. When his parents rush to leave for the airport with their family the following day, they forget Max, who wakes up to an empty house, totally on his own. Thinking the house is empty, Pam (Ellie Kemper) and Jeff Fritzovski (Rob Delaney) try to break into the Mercer home, only to come face to face with Max, who is prepared to defend his house against the trespassers.
