In the first official trailer for Helicopter Mom, a mother with multicolored hair tells her son Lloyd that he has only one birthday wish that she must be part of. His mom is obviously attached to him, as she wants to get matching tattoos, and is worried about him leaving for college.
As they are lacking in funds for his tuition, Lloyd's mom signs him up for a scholarship. However, the only one he can qualify for stipulates that he must be homosexual. The whole school finds out and believes him to be gay, and his mom even creates a fake gay dating profile for her son. Lloyd is frustrated with the labels of his sexuality as his mom continues to sabotage his life and even threatens the girl he asks out to prom.
