Denmark's ambassador to the United States of America, Henrik Kauffmann (Ulrich Thomsen) is relaxing in America at the start of the Second World War, as the Nazis invade his home country. Disagreeing with Denmark's surrender to the Nazis, Kauffman looks to establish an independent embassy in America, defying his King's wishes and betraying his country. Working independently, Kauffmann begins to devise a plan that could mark the beginning of the end of Hitler, and also give the Danish people their freedom back.
