ZHANG ZIYI

Date of Birth: February 9, 1979

Born in Beijing, China, Ziyi studied dance at the Beijing Dance Academy Middle School for four years. In 1994 she was awarded the Chinese Fold Dance Taoli Cup at the National Youth Dance Contest.

She began her acting career working on a number of commercials in Beijing and Hong Kong. In 1999 she landed her first feature film role in The Road Home (Wo de fu qin mu qin). She quickly followed up with an outstanding performance as the lead character, Jen Yu, in the sleeper hit of 2000, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon . The success of this film led Ziyi to her first American movie, Rush Hour 2 (2001), starring Jackie Chan.

Since then, she has played lead roles in films such as Hero (2004), starring Jet Li and House of Flying Daggers (2004). Her most recent film is The Grandmaster (2013).

She is also a spokesmodel for products such as Maybelline cosmetics and Pantene shampoo.
