The script is somewhat overwritten and grand in a Herzogian way but the visuals in this untouched cave are breathtaking - especially in 3D. Those used to flash cuts will find it slow but highly recommended for most.

This movie was above average. The photography was excellent.

User review rating: 1 November 08, 2011

too long and too much repeating same pictures left before it even finished

User review rating: 5 November 07, 2011

This film moves slowly as befits a 30,000 year old subject, but it is a fascinating look at an unknown piece of human history and at those who are studying it. The 3D is perfect here to understand how the shape of the walls have influenced the art.

Awesome exploration of prehistoric caves that mortals like us will never see in person. And, 3D is definitely the way to go. I could have used more scientific observation and speculation: what was the paint made from? How was it applied to the walls? And, less of the philosophical musings from Herzog.

It was a privilege to see inside these remote and rare caves. It was a treat to take a 3D glimpse into human past. Narration by Herzog was a little to airy and philosophical for me. wished that the documentary aspect would have been stronger and supplied details like: what was the material used in the drawers; and, how was it applied to the cave walls? A missed opportunity.
