Great movie! Haven't read the book, but now eager to read it! Very emotional, touching and most importantly touched up on issues like importance of family.
Excellent cinematography and a compelling story. A must see!
Terrific, but sad.
Great drama movie, after all the hardship there is always the sense of hope & enthusiasm throughout the movie.
The Book Thief is an absolutely stunning adaptation of the award-winning novel by Markus Zusak. Sophie Nelisse delivers a beautiful performance as Liesel Meminger, a young girl orphaned by her mother in pre-WWII Germany, who is taken in by a kind man and his thunderous wife. The story tugs at your heartstrings and reminds you that while the crimes that the German committed during WWII were atrocious, the hardships on the good and honest people of that country were just as terrible. Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson, as Hans and Rosa, Liesel's foster parents, are perfect examples of people who try to keep their morals intact in a near desperate situation. Liesel manages to strike up friendship
amazing movie, we enjoyed every minute of it
Heartwarming movie... great actors!
it is a good movie worth watching, but not great. the story is long and pale in the beginning, and it took an hour to wait to see Matt first showing up. The emotion change in the movie is weak though, the teen actors are so awesome!
excellent movie; totally enjoyable
I enjoyed the movie. Very engaging and heartfelt.
I enjoyed watching the film but it seemed as if it was meant for children around 10 or 11 to see. It gives children an idea of what it was like in germany during the Second World war.
Very powerful performances in this story that takes place in Germany during WWII . A very good side of the story of what German families where going through during the Second World War .Very strong performances by Emily Watson and Geoffrey Rush makes this a possible Oscar contender.
The best movie of the year, the new pianist.
This is a beautifully told story. I wasn't expecting much when I sat down to watch it, but within minutes I was totally captivated by the characters. This is an absolute must see!
It was a interesting movie
The film was beautifully acted and filmed. The lead actress was sublime. The story was very emotional and engaging; however, I found the conclusion a bit cold and detached.
The Book Thief is a terrific, heart-warming film that everyone can enjoy... "The Book Thief" takes place during the Holocaust back in WW2 in Nazi's Germany, a subject seen in many other similar movies, but the beauty of this movie comes from the perspective viewers get - that of a child's. There is a great mix of different pieces that move the film along well - the violence and the intensity of the time period, the touching relationships between friends and family, and the humor they all share. Though it's nothing new, the writing and lines are still great and make the characters very likable. Performances by the entire cast, no matter how small or large a role they play, are certainly
I really enjoyed the movie. And I liked the all actors chosen for their part. Some movie parts you tune out-but not with this one, I did not want to miss a part.
Great acting, great storyline, and it was a little emotional...
Wonderful history of a girl during the second world war under the nazi government. happy and sad at the same time.
very well filmed and acted. Story about WW2 through the eyes of a child.
A heartwarming movie that tells a story from a different perspective as it does not focus on war and battles but rather the people affected by it. Great movie!
Sophie Nelisse was an absolute surprise! What a wonderful touching movie. Best movie I'd seen in a long time!!
One of the best movie I have seen so far this year. Excellent cast and acting which is so beautifully done and powerful to the heart. I would totally recommend everyone to see this movie.
The movie was excellent and very moving! The acting was outstanding.
I found this film to be beautifully written, very well done and excellently acted..., but just a tad slow at parts in the beginning for me. That said, I actually really enjoyed it though. The way the story is told, from the perspective of an average German family in WWII who simply wish to live their lives and not have to get caught up in the war, strengthens the message of the film in the end. We are all just people and people do what they have to in order to survive. I may even have to go back and actually read the book now...
What an excellent film the story is amazing and very touching, the actors are excellent especially the girl Emily. I was surprise no one made any noise not even a crunch of chip or popcorn everyone was glue to the creen I loved that film and I really enjoy it, I recommand this film to all. IT'S A MUST thank you for the ticket
An absorbing portrait of a community's indifference to its own... well thought out
The movie Book Thief was so well done the acting was amazing I am a big fan of Geoffrey Rush who did a great job. I thought the story line was so close to the real deal as far as war events go Ithink Sophie is going to be an awesome actress as she was in this movie. I would see this again in a second
Great insight about the war! The movie kept my attention. stealing books and sneaking them into the basement was brilliant! The acting was very good and the movie moved a good pace. Liesel Meminger did a wonderful job! I'm going to purchase the novel now
I loved the movie and told my family and friends that they must watch this movie. The family and friends who watch this also loved the movie.
nice movie
Great film! Great acting and a lovely story!!!!!!
As a huge fan of the novel, I was pleasantly surprised that they not only were extremely faithful to the book, the acting and representations of the characters were spot on. I loved it and I plan to go again.
Such a touching story! Sophie Nelisse did an awesome job in this film. It's the perfect family film!
The book thief was a touching story about those who find themselves trying to survive during a time when having thoughts or beliefs that didn't comply was a death sentence. Acting was excellent and it was a great interpretation of a wonderfully written book.
Would highly recommend this touching and heart felt family film. Really liked the focus on Liesel's realtionship with Rudy foster parent Hans Lubermann. The young girl that played Liesel was amazing and so was Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson's performances. Really enjoyed watching this with my teenage daughter.
I thoroughly enjoyed the move. The actors were excellent, the mother was strict, but in the end she became soft-hearted, and the father portayed someone, whom I would have like to have as a father. The part of Liesel was excellent her acting is wonderful. I recommend this movie to everyone.
A beautiful story and well told. The acting was stellar throughout by all the cast members. Loved it!
Loved it!
Very Moving, recommended.
I thought it was a solid film and enjoyed it a lot. Some other reviews I've read commented on how it over simplified and "fluffed" the harshness and realities of WWII and the holocaust- which I have to acknowledge as well. But they stayed true (enough) to the book, so if you liked the book, you'll probably enjoy the movie. I did.
Excellent movie from beginning to end!!!
This movie was heartwarming and beautiful. It tells the story of a young girl named Liesl who is taken from her mother and placed in the care of adoptive parents. The movie follows Liesl throughout her life as she forms bonds and relationships with people and also as she loses many of those who are close to her due to the war and the Nazi party. The one constant in her life appears to be her love of books. It seems to be this love that steadies her through all of her heart-breaking losses. This was a beautiful movie, and the best that I have seen in quite a few years. It is definitely worth seeing!
It was the best movie I have ever seen! I didn't know of the bestselling book and had no idea of the story. So it was a great surprise. The cast is phenominal...especially the young girl and the father. The audience (myself included) applauded at the end.
There was realism comfort in the story made me cry made me laugh and made me feel fortunate
Was lucky enough to attend a screening for this movie and loved it.Everyone is amazing in it, Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson are always great in everything they do but such a treat to watch the young actors that I didn't know in this movie. Sophie Nelisse and Nico Liersch are adorable and amazing in every scene. Everyone in the theatre had a tear in their eyes for sure at the end as did I. Great movie for all ages.
excellent movie & Sophie Nélisse is amazing !
