It had all the right elements which makes it a great film. You cared for him, you hated him, you laughed with him, and you cried for him. If you haven`t seen it put it on your must see list!

It`s nice to see a movie about a hockey icon (or hockey in general) this isn`t produced on a $2 budget and looks and sounds cheesy. Great acting, great action, and a truly inspirational story.

cool

Overall, I thought it was a good movie... it looks like no expenses were spared, which is good for a Canadian movie. It would have been nice to develop some of the other characters (ie. every scene with his wife involved her crying - either tears of joy or sorrow) but a good flick involving Canadian history.

Not bad, but I`ve seen better.

I was one of the lucky people to watch the premiere of this movie in T.O. in the presence of the stars themselves. What can I say? Phenomenal is appropriate.

SNORE! I don`t believe it was completely accurate and I don`t believe, as good a hockey player as he was, that he should be given so much recognition when all of those truly amazing young men fought and died for us, for what we have now! Yeah, he could play hockey and play it well, so what. Did he really have flat feet? Hmmmm He could skate and play hockey.. then I believe he could have worn Army boots and served and fought like so many others. No, the movie didn`t really impress me but it did tell me enough to know that he really isn`t the Canadian Hockey hero so many made him out to be.

I thought the Rocket was Brilliant I think it is good to see such a dedicated story line and such deatail. It made me cry, laugh and left me hanging with suspence anbout the rest of his life. I think that it is the best movie made because of it`s dedication.

The best movie I have seen in the last 10 years. Loved it. I grew up watching hockey on Saturday night in Canada.

Great Hockey Movie

Formidable, très fidèle à l`histoire et l`esprit du Rocket, héros définitif pour plusieurs générations de canadiens-français!

BEST HOCKEY MOVIE EVER MADE, about the Babe Ruth of Hockey! This is a biographic movie. It exposes the life of the Rocket since he was a teenager. All facts are historical : the depression just before WW2, the social divisions (as those cages that surrounded an area reserved for francophone in the Forum). By the way, most dialogs in hockey scenes are in English, as well as all those involving the team, coaches and so on, which is "by respect of historical facts" in the original french version. STEPHEN McHATTIE IS JUST SUPERB IN IRVIN`S ROLE. Now that`s a coach!! WOW. Actually the most credible I`ve seen in all sports movies around... The mov

One of the best sports films, up there with raging bull, rocky, slap shot and felid of dreams, its too bad when people at Espn do a top sports film thing, this movie wont get recognized cause of its canadian content, but an outstanding film for all hockey fans

I took my son to see this film, and found myself totally engrossed in the emotional portrayal of this man and his wife. I thought it was an outstanding film, although at times felt ambushed by the French Canadian political bent to it.

A great film. Enjoyed the story even with the subtitles. A little worried about how political it started to become near the end, but since I wasn`t around at the time, can`t say how accurate that actually was.

Very inspiring. Brings back great memories of hockey when I was growing up in Montreal in the early 60`s. Roy Dupuis is very convincing as The Rocket. A must see for any true hockey enthousiast!

This movie was a most unexpected surprise. I don`t remember a movie which I enjoyed more. So much of the movie resonated with me as a long time Habs fan. The acting and hockey playing seemed so authentic and first rate. The interaction between Maurice and his wife was most moving. When he came home and was able to tell his wife that he had made the team I felt a chill go up my spine and a tear in my eye. Easily the best sports movie I have ever seen.

5 STARS!!! Truly a great film & a wonderful story about a working class man who became a CANADIAN sports icon, and I hope the late "Rocket" could accept that in the nationalist spirit intended. (I grew up a Leaf fan, who was 7 yrs when he retired. Sadly never saw him play. But, knew the significance of the number 9 - his and Howe`s). The movie looks & feels great too. I now understand how it is possible that his image was bronzed in east-end Montreal and why he was so cherished in life & greatly mourned in death. A must see for all Canadians, coast to coast.

Skating was so so, but it was true to the spirit of "The Rocket". I was moved and was really pulling for Maurice. I forgot how tough he was.

User review rating: 0 April 26, 2006

the best canadian made movie of all time without a doubt! and one of the best if not the best sports movie evert too!

User review rating: 0 April 26, 2006

It was great to finally see a Canadian made film shown in theatres across the country. Canadians need to see more films created in our own country in our cinemas.

User review rating: 0 April 25, 2006

the rocket was flat footed, or collapsed arches as some call it as am i. he didn`t have "bad feet". they just use that figure of speech in the movie.in those days if you were flat footed you were rejected when trying to enlist so it wasn`t necessarily he was dodging the army as he couldn`t have been a military man if he wanted to. i just came from the movie and i have know doubt this is the best movie of the year even if you`re not into sports. it would have been very easy for the producers to change camera angles so the details didn`t have to be so accurate but they didn`t and captured the times very well. my only dissappointment was i took

i thought it was great! it had a true story to it. the movie was like you were took back in time to the rocket playing hockey. every canadian should see the movie for we are the hockey fans and hockey is our culturer...all im saying it is a must see movie.

User review rating: 0 April 25, 2006

It was a really engrossing well made film. Roy Dupuis really captured the rocket`s intensity. Great recapturing of the era and the obstacles faced by Quebecors.

User review rating: 0 April 25, 2006

It`s about time! A Canadian movie that surpasses any other movie of it`s genre, or MOVIE period! What a well produced, directed and acted movie, not to mention the cinematography! It`s not a sport movie...it`s a movie about a man that nobody forgot.

Amazing film... learned lots on #9 The Rocket. A must see!!!

User review rating: 0 April 24, 2006

for the person who wrote he was playing hockey while evryone was at war thats just sad that all your conclusion to the movie was that. He was following a dream. And what happens when you dont want to go to war, i noe many people who wouldnt never set foot near a war let alone join the army. so just think about what you would of done...follow your dream or go to war???

User review rating: 0 April 24, 2006

Although somewhat flawed by revisionism, the movie nevertheless is a work of art with wonderful cinematography, stirring themes and tremendous acting, partcularly by Roy Dupuis.

User review rating: 0 April 24, 2006

I forget that I was watching a movie - I cheered and clapped as if I was at a real game. Timeline was before my time...but I relived those glorious days of `real hockey`.

User review rating: 0 April 23, 2006

the cinematography was great. Roy Dupuis is a very talented actor. th move was well directed and written.

I just got back from opening night of " The Rocket" playing at the Palace in downtown Windsor and here is my review of this movie. The Rocket a.k.a.Maurice Richard was originally given the nickname "The Comet". I did not know this. In fact this movie is big on little known insights into Richard`s life. The focus of the movie isn`t really as much about what he did on the ice as what he did off ice. In fact the staged scenes of him playing hockey are quite lame and don`t come close to what it must have been like watching him play game to game. The movie also failed to capture his famously crazed look as he attacked the net. Despit
