Cineplex Cinemas Markham and VIP
Attached to the First Markham Place shopping complex off Highway 7 in East Toronto, this ten-screen cinema was a major signifier in the municipality’s growth, which has almost doubled over the past 20 years. Opening during Christmas week in 1998, the First Markham Place cinemas was the first major multiplex for the area, offering stadium-style seating, surround sound auditoriums and an arcade. The theatre’s rising success quickly led to the close of the Famous Players Markville 4 nearby in 2000.
