Cineplex Cinemas Yonge Dundas and VIP

Located at the corner of Yonge and Dundas, the 24-screen multiplex has a lot to boast about. Foremost, the multiplex, which opened in March 2008, reversed the trend of cinema closures in the region. Yonge and Dundas used to be a major moviegoing destination, with the Eaton Centre and Imperial Six drawing in big crowds. Those theatres, which have been closed for years, were two of the first theatres in Canada to offer multiple screens, and drew enormous crowds back in the 1970s. The movie house, which can seat close to 5,000 at full capacity, has digital projection technology and sound in all of its auditoriums, allowing a picture with four times the resolution of HD. Beyond its typical uses as a movie house, some of its cinemas are used as classrooms in the morning for Ryerson University students. It currently has one IMAX Screen, five VIP Screens, 10 3D Screens, and one UltraAVX Screen. Also offered is the Stars and Strollers program. Wheelchair accessibility is available, as are Fidelio described video, Assisted Listening Devices and CaptiView Captioning. Parking can be purchased across the street, but the theatre is subway accessible, so it’s best to leave the car at home.
