Scotiabank Theatre Chinook

Attached to the Chinook Centre, Calgary’s largest shopping mall, the 17-screen multiplex is the most popular movie going destination for Calgarians. Famous Players opened the theatre (formerly the Paramount Chinook) in 2000, where it was equipped with an IMAX screen. Designed with an Egyptian-theme, with hieroglyphics and a giant scarab beetle decorating the exterior, the most prominent attribute is a giant sphinx that towers over the theatre lobby. Back when it opened, a laser light-show entertained patron every half-hour on the weekends. More recently, the Chinook cinemas have gone under the Scotiabank banner and added an UltraAVX auditorium in March 2011.
