Cineplex Cinemas Langley
When this multiplex opened in May 1999, ads promised that it would be “The Mother of All Movie Theatres.” Over the past decade or so, it has stayed true to that promotion. Located just south of the Fraser River, the 19-screen Colossus (which includes an IMAX screen) is the largest cinema west of Toronto, and holds a whopping 5,085 seats. Featuring the same UFO-style design and space-themed décor that the Colossus in Vaughn has—as well as a bar, Techntown arcade and various food options—the gargantuan cinema that lives up to its corporate name is such a giant presence in north Langley, that some of the neighbourhoods nearby complained about the skylight that beamed from the top of the cinema. Since, these flashing lights have reduced to a few hours in the evening.
