Scotiabank Theatre Toronto
On the corner of John and Richmond in downtown Toronto is one of the city's biggest multiplexes, with its signature multicoloured cube at the top that promotes coming attractions on several video screens. The theatre open in May 1999 as the Paramount with the release of Star Wars: Episode 1, which played in nearly all of the cinemas, and made it one of the five busiest theatres for the much-anticipated prequel during its opening week. Up an escalator that extends five storeys (45 feet) above street level—one of the longest in Canada—guests can find a plethora of fast food choices, a licensed lounge, 13 spatious auditoriums and an IMAX screen. For several years after the theatre first opened, a pair of bronze railings from the historic Paramount Theatre in New York hung above the escalator, although they were removed in 2006.
