One week down, less than a week to go — and there's still plenty to see. Tonight (Sept. 14) marks another evening of hotly anticipated movies, packed streets, avid fans, and major stars.
First, head on over to Ryerson Theatre where you can catch a glimpse of Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver, who are making their red carpet entrance at 5:15 p.m. to premiere the action thriller (re)ASSIGNMENT. The talented actresses will be joined by the film's director Walter Hill and co-stars Caroline Chan and Adrian Hough. Screening at 6 p.m., (re)ASSIGNMENT follows a male assassin who must now face the world as a woman after a vengeful doctor performs gender reassignment surgery on him.
Your next destination is at Roy Thompson Hall for the world debut of the dramatic biopic The Journey is the Destination, starring Ben Schnetzer as real-life photojournalist and activist Dan Elson who was murdered in Somalia for his role in documenting the war-torn region of Africa. Ben will be hitting the red carpet at 5:30 p.m. alongside his co-stars Ella Purnell, Maria Bello, and Sam Hazeldine, as well director Bronwen Hughes. The film, which also stars Kelly MacDonald, will screen at 6:30 p.m.
Rooney Mara fans rejoice, because the Oscar-nominated actress will be walking the red carpet at Princess of Wales Theatre to debut her drama Una. The film, which also screens at 6:30 p.m., is about a man named Ray (Ben Mendelsohn) whose world begins to unravel after a beautiful young woman named Una (played by Rooney) steps back into his life. Director Benedict Andrews will accompany Rooney on the red carpet at 5:45 p.m.
The final event of the night starts at 8:30 p.m., when star Gerard Butler and director Mark Williams will be premiering their film The Headhunter's Calling at Roy Thomson Hall. The drama follows a corporate headhunter whose dreams of owning his own company are halted when his 11-year-old son becomes ill, and will screen at 9:30 p.m. The film also stars Maxwell Jenkins, Kathleen Munroe, and Anupam Kher, who will all join Gerard and Mark in Toronto tonight.
Reminder: Check back tomorrow to see which stars will be hitting TIFF next! ~Shelby Morton
