TIFF 2020: What to Watch on Day 3

It's the first weekend of TIFF and today promises to be the busiest day! There are several gala presentation premieres and special presentations. Check it out below.

I Care a Lot, starring Rosamund Pike and Eiza Gonzalez, follows two caregivers who defraud elderly clients out of their money. However, things go sour when they run into ruthless gangster (Peter Dinklage). The gala film presentation takes place at 9:30 pm at RBC Lakeside Drive-In at Ontario Place.

Halle Berry brings her directorial debut film, Bruised, to TIFF and also stars in it, telling a redemption story about a former MMA fighter struggling to regain custody of her son while also attempting to restart her athletic career. The film's gala presentation screens tonight at 7:45 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Today's gala presentation kicks off with Pieces of a Woman, starring Vanessa Kirby and Shia LaBeouf, who play a couple reeling from tragedy in the new film from Kornél Mundruczó. The movie premieres at 12 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Glendyn Ivin's Penguin Bloom also premieres today as part of the special presentations. It tells the true story of Sam Bloom (Naomi Watts), whose recovery from a tragic accident is helped when she and her family take in a stray magpie and name it Penguin. When the little bird cries when it needs help, Sam shifts her focus to Penguin more than her own pain. The movie premieres at 12:30 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox and at 6 pm online at Bell Digital Cinema.

Akilla's Escape, part of Planet Africa 25, follows Akilla Brown, a drug trader who tries to set things right while unexpected circumstances force him to confront his traumatic origins. The films screens at 9 pm at West Island Open Air Cinema at Ontario Place.

Michelle Latimer’s affecting adaptation of Thomas King’s award-winning book, Inconvenient Indian, explores the cultural colonization of Indigenous peoples in North America. It screens 4:45 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

The movie Limbo which follows a Syrian asylum-seeker who finds himself in a purgatorial state on a remote Scottish island, screens at 12 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Director Thomas Vinterberg and actor Mads Mikkelsen reunite for Another Round, a sobering comedy about aging, alcoholism, and friendship between men. This one screens at 9 pm and 9:15 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Midnight Madness film Shadow in the Cloud stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a WWII pilot who tries to warn her obstinate male comrades of a sinister presence that may jeopardize the lives of all aboard. The premieres at 11:59 pm at Visa Skyline Drive-In at CityView.
