TIFF 2020: What to Watch on Day 6

We're in the middle of TIFF and it's still buzzing with excitement as cinephiles try to watch their fave films and industry talks with stars virtually.

New Order, the latest from Mexican director Michel Franco, set amid both a street protest and a posh wedding, is a timely indictment of class divide and abuse of power. The film screens at 9:15 pm and 9:30 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Award-winning director Gianfranco Rosi’s new documentary Notturno is an immersive portrait of those trying to survive in the war-torn Middle East. The film screens at 9:00 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Manijeh Hekmat’s music-infused twist on a road movie, Bandar Band, follows a band’s day-long journey across a flooded landscape to Tehran. The movie premieres at 9 pm at West Island Open Air Cinema at Ontario Place.

The Best is Yet To Come is a timely debut from Wang Jing, who was inspired by a journalist who defended 120 million people’s rights with a pen. This will screen at 4:30 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Based on newly declassified files, Sam Pollard’s documentary MLK/FBI explores the U.S. government’s surveillance and harassment of Martin Luther King, Jr. This premieres at 5 pm and 5:15 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Ammonite screens at 12:30 pm and Beginning screens at 12 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox. The CBC TV series Trickster, based on Eden Robinson’s bestselling novel, follows an Indigenous teen struggling to support his dysfunctional family as myth, magic, and monsters slowly infiltrate his life.
