TIFF 2020: What to Watch Day 9

It's the second last day of the festival, and promising titles are still playing at the Lightbox and drive-ins.

Pieces of a Woman stars Vanessa Kirby and Shia LaBeouf as a couple reeling from tragedy in the new film from Kornél Mundruczó. The movie screens at 9 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Halle Berry makes her directorial debut with Bruised, and also stars in it. It's a redemption story about a former MMA fighter struggling to regain custody of her son while also attempting to restart her athletic career. Wildfire, Cathy Brady’s debut, is an emotionally stirring exploration of two sisters — and a country — struggling to emerge from a traumatic past. The film screens 12 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

The Best is Yet To Come is a timely debut from Wang Jing, who was inspired by a journalist who defended the rights of 120 million people with a pen. This will screen at 4:15 pm and 4:30 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Award-winning director Gianfranco Rosi’s new documentary Notturno is an immersive portrait of those trying to survive in the war-torn Middle East. The film screens at 9:00 pm and 9:15 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Based on newly declassified files, Sam Pollard’s documentary MLK/FBI explores the U.S. government’s surveillance and harassment of Martin Luther King, Jr. This screens at 4:30 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Fauna, the latest feature from Mexican-Canadian auteur Nicolás Pereda, is a comedic take on how violence in Mexico has infiltrated popular imagination. This plays at 12 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

In Lili Horvát’s second feature, Preparations to Be Together For an Unknown Period of Time, follows a brilliant neurosurgeon who returns to Budapest to reunite with the love of her life: a man who says they’ve never met. This screens at 12 pm at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
