The hotly anticipated movie Dear Evan Hansen, an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical of the same name, gets a gala premiere tonight at the Roy Thomson Hall, starting at 7 p.m. It stars Ben Platt, who won a Tony award for his performance in the title role on Broadway, as well as Julianne Moore, Amy Adams, Kaitlyn Dever and Colton Ryan.
If you can't make it to the gala premiere, Dear Evan Hansen also screens at 5:30 p.m. at the Princess of Wales Theatre and at 8:30 p.m. at the RBC Lakeside Drive-In at Ontario Place.
Please remember that all in-person screenings require attendees to wear a mask and provide proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations, or proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
The British movie Mothering Sunday starring Colin Firth, Olivia Colman and Josh O'Connor gets a red carpet premiere at the Princess of Wales Theatre, with the movie starting at 9:30 p.m.
Justine Bateman (you may remember her from Family Ties) makes her feature film directorial debut with Violet, screening at 2 p.m. at TIFF Bell Lightbox and at 8:30 p.m. at the RBC Lakeside Drive-In at Ontario Place. It also has a showing at 9:00 p.m. tomorrow night at the Ontario Place West Island Open Air Cinema.
Ildikó Enyedi’s ninth feature and her first in English is The Story of My Wife, debuting today at TIFF Bell Lightbox at 1 p.m.
The Odd-Job Men, an entry from Spain by director Neus Ballús, is a tender look at Barcelona through the eyes of a recent émigré. It screens today starting at 5:30 p.m. at Scotiabank Theatre on Richmond Street West.
The Box is the latest from Lorenzo Vigas. A heartrending study of familial loyalties and a searing look at Mexico’s manufacturing industry, you can watch it at TIFF Bell Lightbox at 5 p.m.
In The Hill Where Lionesses Roar, three young women living in a remote Kosovar village who feel their dreams have been stifled, go on a quest for independence. You can see it at 7 p.m. tonight at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
Attica, a documentary by Stanley Nelson about the largest prison uprising in U.S. history, screens at TIFF Bell Lightbox at 8:30 p.m., followed by another screening on Friday, September 10 at Scotiabank Theatre.
Céline Sciamma’s latest film, Petite Maman, following a girl’s journey to her mother’s childhood home. It screens today at 11:30 a.m. at Scotiabank Theatre, with another screening tonight at 9:00 p.m. at Ontario Place West Island Open Air Cinema.
Other films that premiere today include The Game (6 p.m. at Scotiabank); Huda's Salon (6 p.m. at TIFF Bell Lightbox), The Panthers (7:30 p.m. at Scotiabank Theatre), Mlungu Wam/Good Madam (9:45 p.m. at TIFF Bell Lightbox) and Vengeance is Mine, All Others Pay Cash (8:30 p.m. at Scotiabank Theatre).
