In the second trailer for Pokémon Detective Pikachu, a talking Pikachu explains to Tim Goodman, who is searching for his father, Harry, how he woke up with amnesia, and the only clue of his past is Tim’s father’s address, written in his baseball cap. They conclude that Detective Pikachu can speak to Pokémons, and Tim can speak to humans, so the two join forces to find Tim’s father.
