Two years after the death of her husband, famous novelist Scott Landon (Clive Owen), Lisey (Julianne Moore) grapples with memories from their relationship while going through his office. When a man comes looking for Scott’s unpublished works, Lisey refuses to let them go. But then a crazed fan makes it his mission to get them, stalking and tormenting Lisey in the process. At the same time, Lisey goes deeper into her dreams with Scott. The dreams are so vivid and intense that Lisey is left wondering what is real and what is her imagination.
