Emma (Lily Rabe) is having frightening nightmares or flashes—she's not sure what exactly she's experiencing. She's been placed in witness protection after her former boyfriend turned out to be a serial killer. Emma is told to keep her head down by living a quiet life. Meanwhile, Mary (Amy Brenneman) is still grieving her daughter's disappearance seven years earlier. She claims to know who took her and she believes Emma had a hand in what happened. Determined to avenge her daughter, Mary gets in touch with an ex-con named John (Hamish Linklater) in order to find Emma and get answers from her.
