Last June, Singer’s legal team offered his accuser, Michael Egan, $100,000 to drop the charges. According to New York Magazine, Egan declined the offer, telling BuzzFeed: “This exact kind of take-it-and-shut-up deal is why I decided to stand up in the first place. Being silenced goes completely against what I believe in and offers no protection for other vulnerable children.”
However, Singer’s lawyer, Marty Singer (no relation) threatened to sue Egan’s lawyer, Jeff Herman, for malicious prosecution, and when Egan refused the settlement, Herman dropped the lawsuit. Singer also asked the court that Egan pay his legal fees, but his request was declined. Egan, who has also been threatened with a countersuit, is now looking to refile his sexual abuse suit against Singer with a new lawyer.
