John Travolta drops extortion charges

John Travolta has decided to drop extortion charges against the two Bahamian men who are accused of trying to extort $25 million from Travolta following the death of his teenage son, Jett, last year. Travolta said in a statement: “Almost a year later, the long pending status of this matter continued to take a heavy emotional toll on my family, causing us to conclude that it was finally time to put this matter behind us.” The actor said he decided “it was in my family’s best interest for me not to voluntarily return to the Bahamas to testify a second time at trial.” The first trial of Former Bahamian Senator Pleasant Bridgewater and her client, Tarino Lightbourn, ended as a mistrial last October. They were charged with extortion when they allegedly threatened to go to the media if Travolta refused to pay $25 million for a “Refusal to Transport” document that he’d signed the day Jett died.
