Kate Holmes talks about the “inappropriate” candy incident

Katie Holmes revealed she was shocked when her daughter Suri picked up candy that was meant for adults at an ice cream parlor. She told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on the episode that airs today (April 1): “Recently, I took her to get ice cream in New York at this place called Serendipity that we go to all the time. It’s for kids.” Katie went on to tell how Suri reached out and picked up a box of gummies shaped like male genitalia. Spelling out the word, an embarrassed Katie recalled: “P-e-n-i-s gummies. I said, ‘Oh wow those aren’t Swedish Fish!’ They are called p-e-n-i-s gummies and they look like it. She was holding the box and I was like, ‘OK, wow, we don’t need that right now.'” Katie didn’t want to make too big a deal of it, because she was hoping Suri wouldn’t ask too many questions about why she couldn’t have the candy. She says, “I thought if I said, ‘Put that back!’ then she’s going to say, ‘What is this?’ and I really didn’t want to have that conversation.” At any rate, the young mother was surprised a family-orientated establishment would sell such a lewd product, saying, “I was like, ‘Why are they selling these here? This [place] is for kids.’ “
