Kevin Spacey charitable foundation shut down in U.K.

Kevin Spacey‘s charitable foundation, which worked to offer scholarships and other support to aspiring young performers, closed down its U.K. site yesterday (Feb. 28). The website (www.kevinspaceyfoundation.org) has a message on their “About Us” page that reads:

“The Trustees have reached the conclusion that the work of the Kevin Spacey Foundation UK is no longer viable and as such the Foundation will be closing on the 28 February 2018. The Trustees would like to thank all their partners, artists and organisations for the great work that has been done in association with the Foundation. The Trustees hope that the objects of the charity will be taken forward by other organisations.”

The foundation had scaled back its operations since Spacey was accused of alleged sexual misconduct with a teenager last October. He immediately offered an apology (and outed himself as a gay man) on Twitter, which was met with serious backlash from the LGBTQ community.

The U.S. arm of the foundation — the Kevin Spacey Foundation: America — is still up and running for the time being, though it’s unclear how long it will be in operation. ~Alexandra Heilbron
