Marc Webb’s Spider-Man 2 problems

Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man was a big hit at the box office, making over $650 million so far worldwide. Fans have anxiously been waiting to find out if he’ll be returning to direct the sequel, but he’s been quiet about it and now we know why – it’s not really up to him, or Sony, the studio behind Spider-Man. When he was a little-known director and created his first feature film, 500 Days of Summer, he signed a contract with Fox Searchlight, promising to make another film for them. The studio allowed him to put the contract on hold while he made The Amazing Spider-Man, however they’re unlikely to want to wait another two years (the sequel is set to release May 2014). The only solution for Webb to be able to work on the next Spider-Man film would be for him to sign an extended contract with Fox Searchlight, promising to make two more movies instead of one. ~Stacy Raivich
