Netflix cheating on the rise and there’s proof

Relationships are in turmoil. We knew it and now there are stats to prove it.

A new Netflix study shows that almost half (46 percent) of couples who stream shows together, end up “cheating” on their partner. It’s a fact, but before you go accusing your significant other of cheating, there’s more.

Cheating does, in fact, come in all forms.

Netflix cheating is defined as streaming a show ahead of your partner. I know, shocking. This jaw-dropping behavior is growing, becoming the new norm in Canada and all around the world.

Where?
It’s reported that 37 percent of couples in Canada stream behind their partner’s back while Brazil and Mexico have the most cheaters, raking in 57 percent and 58 per cent respectively. Are there any loyal couples? Well, 73 percent haven’t cheated in Netherlands and 65 percent haven’t in Germany.

Orange is the New Black

Why?
If only we could explain cheating. Most don’t plan to cheat…it just happens. In Canada, 76 percent of cheating is unintended. Globally, cheaters have said that “the shows are just so good we can’t stop bingeing.” We hear you.

Stranger Things

How?
Now this is interesting. It’s been reported that 25 percent of partners stream a show when their partner (you guessed it) falls asleep. Now obviously there’s a debate as to whether sleep cheating counts. Well, 53 per cent said it doesn’t count. Canadians are among that group that believes it doesn’t count, whereas Japan thinks it’s unforgivable.

The Crown

Which ones?
Some of the sinful series couples have been cheating on are The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, Grey’s Anatomy, Stranger Things and Gilmore Girls.

Is cheating bad?
Um, let’s see what the couples had to say. Canada is more socially acceptable when it comes to Netflix cheating as 57 percent say it’s “not bad at all.” But, Hong Kong is not quite the forgiving kind as 40 percent believe that Netflix cheating is actually worse than infidelity. Yup, that’s the cold fact.

Netflix has released the profiles of top classic offenders. So which type of cheater are you?

But is Netflix cheating really bad? Here are three tips to help you with that streaming infidelity. ~Marriska Fernandes
