Wonka debuts in the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes held onto second place, taking in an additional $5.8 million for a five-week haul of $145.2 million.

Last weekend’s top movie, the animated movie The Boy and the Heron, dropped to third with an extra $5.2 million for a two-week total of $23.1 million.

The Japanese action film Godzilla Minus One dropped a spot to fourth, earning an additional $4.8 million for a three-week total of $34.3 million.

Rounding out the top five was the animated movie Trolls Band Together, taking in an extra $4 million for a five-week total of $88.7 million.
