Zac Efron opens up about homosexuality

While people continue to question John Travolta‘s sexuality, Zac Efron responds to the gay rumors that have plagued him since the start of his career. He remarked, “I don’t like to live in fear about things like rumors and backlash to begin with — that’s the way I was raised — but I just can’t see what’s so wrong about being gay.” Reminding people that calling somebody gay is not an insult, Zac approaches the situation in a mature and respectable way. He maintains he is straight, but doesn’t see the point in taking time to combat gossip. In fact, his career has more than likely been helped by the LGBT community. A subject that hits close to home, he also opened up about his support of gay marriage, “It’s an issue that affects so many people in my life — a lot of my close friends and some of the most influential people around me. I just want them all to be happy. It would make me so happy to see them able to live their lives and do what they want to do.”

His breakthrough role being that of High School Musical‘s Troy Bolton, Zac understands people making a connection: “I think the gay audience related to my character Troy, because it really was a story of embracing who you are, no matter how different you might be, and not being afraid to show it. That’s a universal theme for everyone, but it specifically resonated with the gay community, and I felt very proud of that.” Embracing the support and acknowledging what it has done for his career, he also states, “After High School Musical and Hairspray, I’ve always felt embraced by the gay community, and I feel incredibly grateful and honored.”

Zac may finally escape questioning with his latest role in The Paperboy, which includes at least one extremely racy scene with co-star Nicole Kidman. ~Morgan Bates
