Distribution deal for Robert Redford's The Conspirator

Wednesday afternoon brought news of a wave of distribution deals being done at the Toronto International Film Festival, including one for Robert Redford’s latest directorial effort The Conspirator.

ABC News reported on Wednesday that The Conspirator, a drama focused on a young union war hero who must defend a mother accused of aiding her son in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions.

The film, which stars Robin Wright and James McAvoy, premiered at TIFF last weekend and the companies are apparently aiming to bring it to theatres in the spring.

Also, following recent distribution deals for TIFF films Sarah’s Key and Dirty Girl, The Weinstein Company has also picked up North American rights to British comedy Submarine, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Meanwhile, Screen Daily says Anchor Bay Films has picked up Beautiful Boy, starring Maria Bello and Michael Sheen, and SPWA has reportedly acquired North American rights to James Wan’s Insidious.

Earlier this week, Super, the TIFF Midnight Madness hit starring Ellen Page, was acquired by IFC and Sony Pictures Classics picked up the French and Arabic-language film Incendies, directed by Denis Villeneuve.
