Galas named for 2015 TIFF

The first round of titles that will premiere in the Galas and Special Presentations programmes at the 40th Toronto International Festival have been named.

So far, 15 Galas and 34 Special Presentations have been announced. The initial lineup of these films come from acclaimed directors such as Ridley Scott, Roland Emmerich, Rebecca Miller, Tom Hooper and Atom Egoyan, to name a few.

"We are celebrating our 40th anniversary in 2015 and this first round of films offers a taste of the incredible lineup at this year's Festival," said Piers Handling, CEO and Director of TIFF, in a press release. "Made by both established and emerging filmmakers from around the world, these films offer a global snapshot of our times."

Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of TIFF, added: "This year we are thrilled to share a diverse array of filmmakers from Australia, India, France, China, the United Kingdom and the USA.  We look forward to sharing these fantastic films with Toronto audiences-the most engaged and enthusiastic in the world."

Some of the highly anticipated films include the opening night film Demolition, directed by Jean-Marc Valélee and starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Other Galas include: The Martian directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon as an astronaut stranded on Mars; Freeheld directed by Peter Sollett and starring Julianne Moore as a terminally ill police detective who wants her young girlfriend (Ellen Page) to get her pension after her death; The Dressmaker directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse and starring Kate Winslet as a seamstress who falls for a younger man (Liam Hemsworth); the Canadian film Hyena Road directed by Paul Gross, and Legend, directed by Brian Helgeland, starring Tom Hardy as identical twin gangster brothers in London, based on a true story.
