Concrete Utopia premiere brings out the fans at TIFF 2023

South Korean director Um Tae-hwa's new disaster film, Concrete Utopia, brought out many enthusiastic fans to the red carpet and North American premiere at Roy Thomson Hall on September 10, 2023.

Um Tae-hwa, seen at left talking to the audience inside the Roy Thomson Hall, was joined by cast members Lee Byung-hun, Park Seou-jun, Park Bo-young, and Park Ji-hu, who greeted the cheering crowd in order to take selfies with them and sign autographs.

The film takes place just as an earthquake renders much of Seoul a smouldering ruin. Dozens of survivors, including strangers, gather in a building in the Hwang Gung apartment complex that survived the quake. As days pass and no rescue teams turn up, the tenants assemble, survey their limited resources, and vote to evict the "outsiders."

Concrete Utopia has one more press and industry screening at TIFF, on Friday September 15, 8:45 a.m. at Scotiabank Theatre on Richmond Street. ~Alexandra Heilbron
