Johnny Depp fends off a mugger

Johnny Depp has retained his hero status after saving British singer Stephen Jones from a mugger. The two had just left a recording studio in Los Angeles when Jones was confronted by the would-be thief, wielding a broken bottle.

According to British paper The Sun, Depp intervened and ordered the man to leave. “It was an extremely scary moment. This guy looked off his head,” a friend told the paper. “Johnny looked him straight in the eyes and told him to back off. (The mugger) looked at Johnny and said, ‘I ain’t stealing from Captain Jack,’ and put the bottle down. Johnny gave him a few bucks and told him to straighten up his life.”

This isn’t the first time Depp has performed a heroic deed. In 2008, while shooting a scene for his movie Public Enemies, he threw himself at a crowd of extras with his arms outspread to push them out of harm’s way when a stuntdriver lost control of a car.

Another time, he recorded a message for a teenage fan in a coma at the request of her parents, and after he finished filming Public Enemies, sent a young fan the hat he wore in the film because the boy had admired it. He included gifts for the boy’s siblings in the package. ~Alexandra Heilbron
