Following last week’s stellar debut, Disney’s live-action adaptation of their theme park ride Jungle Cruise dropped to second place. The action adventure flick starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt saw a 57 percent drop this past weekend for a gross of $15.7 million. The steep drop continues a trend for most of this year’s big releases with the film’s day-and-date release and loss of IMAX screens to The Suicide Squad contributing to the drop. All told, the film’s domestic total now stands at just $65 million over 10 days.
Landing at third was M. Night Shymalan‘s latest thriller, Old. The thriller saw a modest drop of 45 percent this week for a weekend gross of $4.1 million haul. Its domestic total now stands at just under $38.5 million over its 17 days of release.
After weeks of inconsistency, Marvel’s Black Widow finally managed to stabilize with a mere 44 percent drop this past weekend. The solo outing for Scarlett Johansson‘s superhero brought in over $4 million this past weekend, helping push the film past F9: The Fast Saga to become the year’s highest-grossing film to date. Over its 31 days of release, the film has now brought in just under $$180 million.
Rounding out the top five is Matt Damon’s Stillwater. The crime drama brought in an additional $2.86 million at the box office to push its 10-day dometic total to over $10 million. ~Paolo Maquiraya
