Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn second highest opening of 2011

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 enjoyed the second highest opening of the year, just behind the final instalment of the Harry Potter series, grossing an estimated $139.5 million (all figures U.S.), making it the fifth highest movie opening in box office history, behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 3, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Tribute users enjoyed it, giving it 4 out of 5 stars. The movie, which follows lovers Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) through their marriage and honeymoon, stayed very close to the book written by Stephenie Meyers. Far behind in second place was the animated sequel Happy Feet Two, which pulled in $22 million over the weekend, also scoring 4 stars at tribute.ca. Last week’s box office champ, the action adventure Immortals, dropped to third place, grossing an additional $12.3 million. Adam Sandler‘s comedy Jack and Jill fell two spots to fourth, taking in $12 million. Rounding out the top five was Puss in Boots with $10.7 million for a total take to date of $122 million.
